When do you have to change your transmition oil?

I have a 2006 Ford Explorer Eddie Bauer with 59,000 miles. When is it that I have to change the oil in the transmission. I am very punctual with oil changes and I don't want to over run them.|||When your Ford owner's manual specifies the mileage or time in your maintenance schedule. However, I recommend a change right now at your current mileage and time since purchase if you want the transmission to last a long time and you haven't changed it since purchasing the car.|||that probably has a sealed transmission and you're not supposed to ever have to change the tranny fluid on them. that's what ford says anyway. but it should be changed every 3 years or 60000 miles. is what most suggest. and when it's changed you should look for fragments of the clutches in the pan. and get the wallet ready if you see large fragments. because a rebuild ain't cheap unless you've got a good friend that rebuilds transmissions.|||Most owner's manuals say it isn't necessary. Yeah, right. That's why transmission shops are making a fortune replacing burned out automatic transmissions.

A vehicle owner's manual will detail pretty much all maintenance throughout the life of the vehicle. But for optimum protection, change the fluid and filter every 30,000 miles (unless you have a new vehicle that is filled with Dexron III ATF which is supposed to be good for 100,000 miles).
