What is the difference between a tune up and an oil change?

If I do a tune up do I still need to do an oil change? Or vice versa?|||They are 2 separate things.

An oil change consists of removing the old oil and oil filter and replacing it with new oil and oil filter.

"Tune-up" is a term that can mean many different things, but most commonly means changing the spark plugs.

On most newer cars, you should change the oil every 3k - 5k miles and change the spark plugs every 60k - 100k miles.|||A tune up sets the engine right after running over a period of time. This entails putting the engine at its correct settings.

An oil change is totally unrelated to a tune up. Oil change is a replacement of your engine lube oil and (perhaps) the filter as well.

Oil is changed at specific intervals, while a tune up is carried out 'as and when required'.|||An oil change is what it sounds like. They change your oil, filter, top off all of your fluids and any needed lubrication. A tune-up they will change your plug wires, plugs, fuel filter, pcv valve (if your vehicle has one) timing (depending on vehicle) and air filter.|||Tune up deals with fuel filter, plugs, wires, air filter, breather valve to make the engine run more efficiently. An oil change helps prolong the life of your engine by keeping it lubricated. You don't have to do one with the other, but I would.|||oil change is taking out your old oil and putting in new oil and filter. a tune up is where you take your ignition system and bring it to OE specs
