How long after driving should I wait to do an oil change?

Just got home after driving on the highway for about an hour. I'd like to do an oil change today before it's dark. How long should I wait before the oil is cool enough that it won't be dangerous to change it? If it makes a difference the car is a '92 Buick Regal with the 3.8. Thanks.|||The sooner the better...The oil will be thin and drain better... After driving 30 min...|||Oil should be changed when it is hot. Contaminants will be in suspension in the hot oil. Just be careful. You can let the engine cool down after you remove the drain plug and before removing and replacing the filter.|||that is a matter of opinion and preference. in a lube shop, i did them all day long fresh off of the freeway. as long as you are careful, you should not get hurt. sure, i got a few burns over the years but i was doing 3 cars at the same time and for at least 7 hours a day.
