I've always done my own oil changes, and yesterday I spent a little over $20 on an oil filter (the less expensive one) and 4 quarts of oil that were on sale. It usually costs more because I usually get those items from a Honda dealership. Doesn't it only cost like $30 to have someone else change your oil?|||mine was about $45 to change|||Stay away from cheapo oil change joints. In addition to giving you a quick oil change, they will pressure you for a bunch of other stuff you don't need. For $45, you can get a good mechanic to change the oil and filter. That's far better, faster and cheaper than doing it yourself. You do it for about $21. So for $45 - $21 = $24 more, you get to stand under your car, have him check everything out and ask a pro as many questions as you can before he hits the down lever. You get to make the acquaintance of a good mechanic you can trust to give you straight answers when the big problems show up. The questions answered are a real education about your car. Those things are worth far more than the extra $24. And he has to get rid of the oil.|||$25 to $30 at discount oil change places. Just keep in mind that many places can play on a persons fear factor. And recommend additional service which are the real money makers.
If you change you own oil filter then you know that there are cheap filters and high quality filters...Wix NAPA HONDA...and other OEM filters. Puroilater. Those Fram...one size fits all are not Truly a high quality oil filter..or many off brand import filters as well.
I would just say...Request that they don't use an impact wrench or Crescent wrench on your drain plug and check you oil with you pick the car up to make sure they put in the proper amount. Most Quickie Lubes...OIL CAN YAHOOS, Are entry level Automotive apprentices and may or may not use proper fluid. So Watch your P's and Q's. Be your own quality control inspector! Good Luck.
(I WOULD RECOMMEND CALLING THE DEALERSHIP AND GET THEIR CHARGE..ASK IF THEY HAVE WEEKEND SPECIALS ON OIL CHANGES OR COUPON SPECIALS)|||Yeah, for about what you pay to buy the oil and filter yourself you can pay someone else to do it. Plus you don't have to dispose of the old oil and you don't get dirty. Just isn't worth it to change your own oil.|||Cost me about 35 dollars (CDN) at the lube shop/carwash.
Cant beat that with a 98 chev astro van.
Just remember, when these kinda shops change your oil, its a quik in and out and they dont lube the chassis(required as regular maintenance)|||Mine was 39.95 including the tax. they called the package (supreme oil change)
top off fluids, lubricate chasis etc, etc. Maybe it depends also on your location.
